Road slabs or asphalt: when reinforced concrete wins
Where asphalt cracks under heavy machinery and washes out in the rain, a reinforced concrete slab lasts for years. When to choose ПД.
Asphalt is good for steady light traffic. But on access roads to construction sites, on industrial and storage yards, under tracked and heavy trucks it deteriorates quickly. Here the precast reinforced concrete road slab (ПД, ПДН) wins.
Advantages of road slabs
- A ready surface at once. Slabs are laid by crane on a base — the surface works the same day, without weeks of laying and curing.
- Withstand high loads. Heavy concrete with a reinforcement cage is not afraid of tracks and large axle loads.
- Reusable. A temporary road can be dismantled and relaid at a new site.
- Weather-independent. Installation is possible in any season.
When to choose slabs
Temporary roads and detours during construction, access to quarries and production sites, yards for storage and machinery. The only nuance is the seams between slabs; where a perfectly even surface is required, factor this in at the design stage.
