Road Slabs: How to Read the Marking ПД, ПДП, ПАГ and Choose
Road slabs ПД, ПДП and ПАГ: how to read the marking, how the types differ by load and how to choose a slab for the base and traffic intensity.
A road slab is a precast reinforced-concrete element for the surfacing of roads, industrial yards, and temporary or service driveways. The slabs are laid on a prepared base, and the surface is ready for load straight away.
How to read the marking
The marking encodes the slab type and its dimensions — length and width in decimetres. The letters indicate the variant and the numbers after them are the rounded sizes. Knowing this logic, it is easy to match a slab to the site size and the required load.
Main types
- ПД — road slabs with non-prestressed reinforcement for roads and yards with moderate load.
- ПДП — prestressed slabs (with tensioned reinforcement) for intensive traffic and heavy machinery.
- ПАГ — airfield slabs of the highest load class, also used where maximum strength is required.
How to choose
- Expected load and traffic intensity.
- Soil type and base preparation.
- Temporary or permanent surfacing.
- Site dimensions — so the slab sizes fit without excess cutting.
- The need for later dismantling and reuse.
Advantages of a precast surface
- Fast laying — the driveway is ready at once.
- Repairability: individual slabs can be replaced.
- Reuse after dismantling.
- Durability and resistance of reinforced concrete to load and weather.
