FBS foundation blocks: how to choose the size and not overpay
ФБС are the workhorse of precast foundations. We break down the marking, sizes and when blocks beat cast-in-place concrete.
ФБС foundation blocks are precast concrete elements used to build basement walls, plinths, retaining walls and equipment bases. A block arrives ready and is installed by crane, so the foundation is faster and more predictable than a cast-in-place one.
How to read the marking
In the ФБС designation three numbers are the rounded length, width and height in decimetres. For example, ФБС 24.4.6 is a block about 2380 mm long, 400 mm wide and 580 mm high. Knowing this logic, it is easy to pick a range for the wall thickness.
When blocks beat cast-in-place
- Speed. No formwork or on-site curing.
- Weather. Installation is possible in any season.
- Predictability. Factory quality and precise geometry.
- Logistics. Ready elements arrive on the work schedule.
